Domain Name Quarantine and Recovery

For certain domain extensions, a domain enters a quarantine period once it has been canceled. During this quarantine:

  • The domain cannot be registered by others.
  • The domain can usually be recovered for a fee.
  • The domain will no longer function.

The domain remains registered and is exclusively available for recovery by the original owner.

🌐 Moving a Domain Out of Quarantine

If your domain is in quarantine, you have the following options:

  • Renew it with your current provider and then initiate a transfer (additional costs may apply).
  • Wait for the domain to fully expire and try to register it again (risk: someone else might register it first).

⚠️ Keep in mind: for certain extensions like .com, there is a 90-day transfer lock after recovery.
