# Requesting a Transfer Code via Mijn Xynta

**Planning to transfer your domain name to another provider? You'll usually need a transfer code (also called **EPP code** or **authcode**). Below you'll find how to look it up easily through My xYnta.**

|| This article applies to domain names registered with xYnta. The transfer code is a unique code that proves you own the domain name — your new provider needs it to initiate the transfer.

### Step-by-step guide

1. Go to [My xYnta](https://mijn.xynta.com) and log in with your email address and password.
2. Click **DOMAIN NAME** at the top of the page.
3. Under **Domain names**, click the domain name whose transfer code you want to request.
4. Click the **MANAGE** button.
5. Click **Request transfer code**.
6. Close the **Manage** window via the cross in the top right.
7. Under **Details**, you'll find an input field with an **eye icon** next to **Transfer code**.
8. Click the eye icon to reveal the requested transfer code.

| Copy the transfer code and provide it directly to your new provider. The code remains visible in My xYnta, so you can look it up again later.

### Transfer codes for .be and .eu

For certain extensions — including **.be** and **.eu** — the transfer code is **not shown directly in My xYnta**. Instead, the code is automatically sent by email to the **domain holder** as soon as you request it.

||| We **cannot view or request** the transfer code for `.be` and `.eu` domains on your behalf — only the domain holder receives the code by email. Please make sure the holder's contact details are up to date before requesting the code.

### Before you transfer

In addition to the transfer code, there are a few things to check for a smooth domain transfer:

* **Is your domain name locked?** Many domain names are locked by default with a **transfer lock** (also known as registrar lock). Disable this before you transfer — see [Locking or unlocking a domain name](https://help.xynta.com/en/article/locking-or-unlocking-a-domain-name-8to90s/).
* **Are your holder details current?** Check that the domain holder's email address is still correct — some extensions require email confirmation of the transfer.
* **Moving to xYnta?** Request the transfer code from your current provider and use our [free migration service](https://help.xynta.com/en/article/using-our-free-migration-service-1ratfsj/) — we'll handle the migration of your website, database, email and domain name for you.
