What does “This domain name is (temporarily) suspended” mean and how can I resolve it?

Seeing the message "This domain has been (temporarily) suspended" on your website? We've put your website or hosting plan on temporary hold. In most cases this is quickly resolved. Below you'll find the possible causes and the step you can take right away.


A suspension is always temporary. As soon as the underlying reason is resolved, we usually bring your website back online within a few hours.



How do you know your website has been suspended?


If we've suspended your website, you'll see one of our standard pages instead of your own site. You'll also have received an email from us with the reason and the steps you can take. So first check the email address associated with your xYnta account — including the spam or junk folder.


Not sure whether your website has actually been suspended or whether something else is going on? Use our website check — it shows right away whether your site is reachable and what's going on.


Possible cause 1 — Outstanding payment


This is by far the most common reason. One or more invoices are still open and, after multiple reminders, we've put your plan on temporary hold to prevent further charges.


What do you do?


  1. Log in to My xYnta and open Invoices.
  2. Pay all outstanding invoices at once — you can do so directly via iDEAL, PayPal or bank transfer.
  3. Once your payment is processed, we'll automatically bring your website back online. In most cases this happens within a few hours.


Already paid but your website is still offline? Send us a copy of the payment proof via our contact page — we can then speed things up manually.


Possible cause 2 — Misuse via your website


Sometimes we suspend a website because it — often without you realising — is sending spam, spreading malware or has been hacked. In that case the suspension is intended to protect you and your visitors, and to prevent our servers from ending up on blocklists.


What do you do?


  1. Get in touch — include your domain name and reference the email you received from us.
  2. We'll explain exactly what we found and what action is needed.
  3. In many cases we resolve the situation together with you: outdated software gets updated, infected files get removed and passwords get renewed.


In this situation, please don't delete files or reset your password on your own without consulting us first. Without establishing how the infection got in, the chance of your website being hacked again is high. Let us guide you through it.


Possible cause 3 — Abuse report from a third party


We've received a report from another party about misuse via your website — such as spam, phishing or illegal content. In that case we always give you the opportunity to respond first.


What happens?


  • You receive an email from us with the details of the report.
  • You have 24 to 48 hours to respond or resolve the issue.
  • If you don't respond in time or the issue isn't resolved, we're left with no choice but to temporarily suspend your website.


What do you do? Respond to our email as quickly as possible. Not sure about the report or what exactly is going on? Get in touch — we're happy to think along with you.


In exceptional cases — such as serious violations of Dutch law or a court order — we may suspend immediately and contact you afterwards.


How do you prevent this in the future?


A suspension is inconvenient — fortunately in most cases it's easy to prevent:


  • Keep your contact details up to date. Check in My xYnta that your email address is current, so you always receive our reminders and notifications.
  • Set up automatic payment. That way you won't forget an invoice and you won't be caught by surprise.
  • Keep your website up to date. Regularly update your CMS, themes and plugins to prevent hacks and infections.
  • Use strong, unique passwords for your control panel, FTP and CMS admin page.
