Why am I receiving emails with the subject “Mail Delivery Error”?

Are you receiving many emails with the subject "Mail Delivery Error"? This usually indicates that your website is being misused to send spam. This can happen if a hacker gains access to your website or email address and sends unwanted messages to random recipients.

We strongly recommend taking immediate action to resolve the issue.

What steps can you take?

Create a backup of your website.
This allows you to restore a safe version of your site if needed, even if it doesn't currently appear hacked.

Update all your software.
Make sure your CMS (such as WordPress, Joomla, or Drupal) and all themes and plugins are fully updated.

Check your files via FTP.
Log in to your hosting package via FTP and look for unfamiliar folders or files.
Save suspicious files locally and then remove them from your hosting.

Check file and folder permissions.
Use the correct permissions:
644 for files
755 for folders
Avoid using 777 permissions whenever possible.

Change all your passwords.
Update passwords for:
Hosting control panel
Email accounts
FTP accounts
